North Queensland Natural History Group Weekend

1 Dec 2014

The first field excursion of the North Queensland Natural history group was held over the weekend of 18th & 19th October at Talaroo Station. The North Queensland Natural History Group consists of people with various levels of expertise with the flora and fauna of north Queensland, from interested beginner to leaders in their field. The group is sponsored by Northern Gulf Resource Management Group’s Wildlife Management Project, through the Caring for Country Program.

A group of thirty traditional owners and naturalists got together for 3 days to participate in a fauna survey, a bird survey and general investigation of the property. Despite the hot, dry, dusty and sometimes windy conditions a great time was had by all and many observations made of the plants and animals, including some new records for the area.

The aims of the group are to increase knowledge of the flora & fauna of the region by recording observations and assisting landowners and the community to recognise, appreciate and conserve their natural assets.
